Original Author Applications

We are currently accepting applications for Summer 2011!

Each year, we open up our applications to select new SmartGirl Authors. Because we receive so many applications each year, it is very competitive!

To increase your chances of being selected, follow these tips:

  1. Know how you want your story to end
  2. Have (at least) your first few chapters already completed
  3. Be passionate about your topic, no matter what it is

Our first two rules help us make sure that you're really committed to completing your story. The final rule just makes your story fun to read!

Note: We are unable to send letters of rejection. If you have questions about the status of your application, you can contact us at admin@smartgirl.org.

Even if you don't get accepted in the first round, keep working on your story. In the end, we're just here to help you do what you would have done anyway. If you're not writing for us, write for yourself!

Include a summary of the plot.

Include a chapter or two from your story.

We will use this to contact you if you've been selected!

SmartGirl may refuse to publish any writing piece that is submitted. SmartGirl reserves the right to edit your submission for spelling and length. All material submitted to SmartGirl is owned by SmartGirl, unless you are submitting a letter someone wrote you. Check out our legal page.
