Chapter 1: Hick Town |
BRRRRING! 6:00a.m. the clock reads. "The first day of high school," I say to myself. I'm so not accepting the fact that I have four more years to go until I'm free - free of this town of people on drugs and welfare. I'm ready for more.
Well, let me introduce myself. My name is Kimberly Hensworth. I'm your average girl with a pretty face who cheerleads, is boy crazy, and well, you know the rest. Just kidding. I'm, well, interesting, you see. Around my friends I'm the average girl with a pretty face, but inside I'm a girl with dreams who wants to just go on my own path. I could never show that to my friends. This world is so full of labels that I would be called emo or something if I did show that side.
Anyways, the first day of high school, I walk downstairs to my suburban mother who's a total Desperate Housewife wannabe. She always wants to know the latest gossip on whose kid is pregnant or who's on drugs or something. She gives me eggs with a large piece of some kind of meat. "I pity myself," I say aloud.
"Oh, stop whinin' and shut up," my mother says. "People in Africa are starvin' and pleadin' for food like this," she says with her fake southern accent.
"Whatever," and I walk out the door.
Walking on this warm August morning feels like walking on a plank. Nervous as I feel, I have to be calm. That's how you survive in this overrated labeled world. BZZZ!
"AHHHHHH!" I scream. It's just my cell phone. I'm not used to it being on vibrate. It's a new text message from Danielle. Danielle is my BFF. Well, that's what she says, but whatever. The screen reads: "meet me at the front of scool <3333!" Now I don't feel as nervous.
Finally I get to school and see many of my friends at the front. "Hi Kimberly!" My friend Brennan screams. She looks like the average girl - she is pretty, but definitely not beautiful.
"Hey, what's up?" Danielle says. She's dressed in a black kimono dress with leggings and her blonde hair is down. "So how's it been?" she asks.
"Oh ok, I guess." We keep on talking until the bell rings. First block. Eh. Photography. Well, here's a good way to start the day off. I sit down on the discolored green-orange desks. I look around the room. Seniors. All seniors. Crap. The first class I get is with all seniors. Well, wish me luck.
