Last month, we asked you to change some of the colors in Pablo Picasso's painting Two Girls Reading and then reflect on how that altered the painting itself. Scroll down to the masterpieces SmartGirls came up with and what they had to say about them.
This is our last Artistic Impressions' posting! We are retiring this page on the site, so thank you to all our artists who have dutifully submitted each month!
December's impressions:
This is a 1934 painting by Spanish painter and sculptor Pablo Picasso. The painting, entitled Two Girls Reading, uses bright colors and heavy lines to depict the two reading girls. Picasso was influenced by many different movements and styles and is known for the many different styles he used in his work.
What changed about the painting when you colored it yourself? Did the colors alter the mood? How did it make you feel? Would you keep it this way if it was up to you? Do you feel like an artist now?

Color scheme: Original
I left everything original, because the color brings me joy but the face brings sorrow. This painting is very different, but the artist has a special talent. To me, it sort of looks like a puzzle. ~ Jackie, age 11

I think it is a beautiful, calm and peaceful picture. It looks like a mother and daughter who were reading a story and drifted into a happy sleep. ~ GaddoK, age 10

I think that when I changed it it made it a little more neutral and calming. It made me feel kind of sleepy and sad at the same time. I wouldn't keep it this way because the original painting probably meant something deep to the original painter. I don't really feel like an artist - it was just coloring. ~ squirrle bait, age 14
