How To Write A Survey

Writing surveys can be lots of fun, especially if you're a naturally curious sort of person. Now you can get answers to all your questions!

Making It Work

Here are some last steps to make sure your survey is the best that it can be. When you're satisfied with your survey and it makes sense to your friends, you're ready.

  1. Take your survey.

If you get bored by the end, so will other people taking your survey. Edit your questions and responses to keep things interesting.

    • If you get sick of writing, change some questions to multiple choice.
    • If you wish you could say more, change some multiple choice questions to open-ended.
    • If you didn't have enough options for multiple-choice, add more options or make it a short-answer.

  2. Check grammar, spelling, and consistency.

If people can't read your survey, it doesn't make sense, or it's confusing, they won't finish it.

    • Keep the same POV (e.g. "You think..." vs. "I think...").
    • Make sure your scales always go in the same direction, e.g. best-to-worst and most-to-least.

  3. Have a friend take your survey.

Let your friend can give you feedback and let you know if something doesn't make sense, if you need more options, or if they got bored too fast. Use your own judgment and decide for yourself if you want to make the changes they suggest. Maybe they'll tell you how great it was
