Teen Read Week Survey

Books

When it comes to what books teens read for pleasure, the most popular genres are mystery, adverture, and horror. Boys are more likely than girls to enjoy books about hobbies or collecting, how-to books, factual books on topics such as dinosaurs or space, science fiction, and books on sports. Girls are more likely than boys to enjoy true stories, mysteries, horror stories, fantasy books, romance novels, and biographies/autobiographies. However, gender preferences should not be taken to an extreme; 27% of girls like to read science fiction for fun, 25% like to read books about hobbies or collecting, and 20% of girls like books about sports. 41% of boys like to read books about fantasy, 21% like to read biographies/autobiographies, and 10% like to read romance novels.
