The Myth:

In Greek mythology, Sagittarius is commonly associated with centaurs (a half-human, half-horse creature), and more specifically with Chiron, an important centaur who was known for his healing powers and respected for his teachings. Chiron sacrificed his life so that men could obtain fire, and this sacrifice won him a place in the sky. The bow that Chiron is aiming is pointed at Scorpio, the scorpion.
