Amber Rubarth’s music is very comforting. When I listen to it, I imagine myself drinking an iced tea on a warm spring day while wearing a light and comfortable sundress. Her music makes me want to do something artistic like paint, play an instrument, or write a poem. It’s very uplifting and encouraging.

It’s hard to pin a genre to Amber’s music. Singing with nothing but a guitar, it sounds like a mixture of folk, indie, acoustic, and alternative. It is impressive, yet modest. It is groovy, yet simple. Amber holds her own genre in my opinion and she does it well.

The fact that Amber doesn’t have a full band emphasizes her vocals and lyrics. Many artists hide behind music. Amber doesn’t. She gives her listeners clever little metaphors and tells funny stories. Her lyrics are not complicated at all. They serve their purpose of sending a simple message.

Amber has the voice of a young teenager. She doesn’t sound raspy, but she sounds dry and unpolished. I was sure that she was very young. When I found out that she was in her mid 20s, I was shocked. After shock came embarrassment for her feeble voice. I believe she has great potential. She just needs to use it. A lot of her songs sound like she forgot to make that trip to the water fountain before recording. Every now and then, a nice musical note would drop from her lips, but it didn’t last.

Amber also doesn’t sing in rhythm. The music she makes is just there so that she isn’t singing a capella. Her voice does not follow the beat of her music. Every so often, her voice will fall into the beat of the music, but it sounds like a mistake almost every time. It makes me want to ask: why have music if it doesn’t serve your voice?

I would recommend Amber Rubarth’s music to people who like soft music without all of the extra instruments. I recommend her music to people who listen to folk, indie, alternative or acoustic music. Also, people who like music with lyrical humor should like Amber’s music.
