Diary of a Wimpy Kid; Rodrick Rules by Jeff Kinney (by eclaireg, 13)

"No wonder it's a New York Times Best Seller, it's hilarious!"

Book Rating: **** four stars (incredible)
Book Subcategory: Biographies

Briefly tell us what this book is about (without giving away the ending, of course!).

It's just the Diary of a Teenage Boy named Gregory who has an older and a younger brother and a unique best friend. He writes in this journal/diary (which is the whole book) and most of the things that happen to him are funny and it even has a little picture to go along with almost every entry.

How does the title relate to the storyline?

It's the whole book, Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

Is there something interesting that the author does to present the story?

Yeah, it is... How did you guess? :)

If you could rewrite the story, what would you change to make it better?

I would have Rodney get into trouble more often and the owner of the journal not get pulled into the punishment.

Why would you recommend (or not recommend) this book to a friend?

I would recommend it to people who don't like to think too much about what they are reading and would just prefer an easy read, and it's funny at the same time so how could you go wrong?

Why did you choose to read this particular book?

Because my sister was done with it and the cover looked interesting so I read the first one then I read the second one, I'm talking about the second one though.

Complete this sentence:

When I finished reading the last page of this book, I felt... Sad, I loved the book and didn't want it to end.

What type of reader do you think this book is appropriate for?

The ages it would probably interest would be 9-12, but it's a fun read for older ages too. If you like comic books you would like this, and it's not too long and it's very funny, so it would interest people who don't normally like to read a lot.

Give at least one example of a memorable quote, moment, or theme from the book.

Gregory, Rowley, and Rowley's babysitter, Leland, were playing a game called Magick and Monsters and it's a violent game. Gregory's mom comes and joins in and Leland gives the situation "You run into a pack of orcs... And they look hungry!" and Gregory's mom says "We give them all of our food" instead of spearing them or something, I like this part of the book because it's all about the mom doing "nice" things instead of being violent in this game.

Would you ever read another book by this author?

Yes

In your overall opinion, this book is...

A nice escape.
