Perfume by Patrick Suskind (by Victoria, 15)

"Read this fabulous tale of a deranged man by the name of Grenouille who is obsessed with smells and will do anything to get them to keep and have."

Book Rating: **** four stars (incredible)
Book Subcategory: Young Adult

What is this book about? (please don't give away the ending!)

This book is set in Paris during the 18th century. It is about Grenouille a strange man who when born had no smell. People were very dirty back then and constantly wore perfume or other similar products to cover up their body odour. So they were amazed that the young child did not have a smell and thought of him as the devil. Grenouille grew up and was a servant all his life. He has an extreme passion for scents and goes around sniffing the air for new smells. He soon becomes so obsessed that he begins murdering young girls to steal away their smells. He is a servant for a perfumer named Baldini and makes perfumes for him to sell, but gets no credit for his work. Soon, he stops working for Baldini and moves away. That is when the book gets very, very interesting but I will not give it away.
