This
is a really good book! I am definitely going to read it again!
What is the book about?
The Hunger Games follows the story of a dystopian society, in which children are picked at random to fight to the death in a televised competition at the Capitol. The country of Panem, where the story takes place, is divided into 12 districts, and a boy and girl tribute are picked from each district. The book is not all about adventure; it also includes elements of romance.
How does the title relate to the story?
The title talks about the hunger physically for bread. Each district is hungry because the Capitol takes much of what they have away. The title also refers to the name for the games at the Capitol, the Hunger Games. The games were named this way because the children have to fend for themselves.
Which 3 things really stand out about this story?
1. The message of the book is really strong. It shows how much society is focused on television and the media and how that can turn into a bad thing.
2. The romance in the book is something a lot of people enjoy.
3. The ending is kind of terrible because it just leaves you hanging, so you have to read the next book!
Who was your favorite character?
My favorite character in the book is Rue because she is a genuinely good person and has very individual techniques for fighting in the Hunger Games. I like that she doesn't let her size or age discourage her.
Which scene did you absolutely love or absolutely hate?
I love the whole background story shared towards the beginning of the book about Katniss being so hungry that she goes out to search for food. Peeta gives her bread even though it gets him yelled at by his mother. This story was so sweet.
What would you change about the story?
I can't think of anything I would really change.
What type of reader is this book appropriate for?
Anybody can read this book. I thought for sure I wouldn't like it because I don't like those "running around in the woods hunting" type of books. However, the Hunger Games includes so many elements from different types of genres that anybody can really enjoy it.
Is this story appropriate for people under 13 years old?
Yes
