Report on School's Out for Summer! The Summer Vacation Survey
Smart girls decide for themselves™.
Posted in July of 2008, this survey asked SmartGirls to describe their summer vacations. From their plans to their feelings about leaving school and going back in the fall, SmartGirls weighed in on those lazy summer days.
Who were our 520 summer surveyors? We had more guys than usual take this survey - 65 - and the rest are girls. Most of you are between the ages of 11 and 16, and you all come from your own unique backgrounds! Now let's jump in to what we learned!

On the last day of school, more of you said you feel excited or relaxed than anything else. Why? Well, it seems like most of you have at least 2 and half months of vacation in front of you!
According to SmartGirls, the best part of summer vacation is either the fact that you're not in school or the fact that you can sleep late! What's the worst part? Not seeing your friends, hands down, though a fair amount of you said you sometimes also have a hard time finding things to do.
What are you guys up to? We found the most popular summer vacay activities are hanging out with friends, listening to music, watching TV/movies, hanging out online and reading (in that order).

During the summer months, the majority of you wake up after 9am, with the majority of you hitting the sack after 10pm.
Homework during summer? For about half of you, it's a reality. You're doing work either for summer school or for your classes next fall.
Almost all of you keep in touch with your friends during vacation. There are lots of ways to do this, but the two most popular were to talk on the phone or simply to hang out. How do you keep in touch with a crush or significant other? Again, phone calls and hang out sessions came in first, though about half of you said you're going crazy because you can't see your crush or significant other during the summer months.
About 60% of you said your family usually takes a summer vacation. How about this year?

To wrap things up, when school rolls around again, SmartGirls have a range of feelings, from nervous to sad to excited. But the majority of you share one feeling...that summer vacation goes by too fast!
