Report for Music Survey

Report Title:
Report on Music Survey
Created by Gabbyo on August 01, 2008

My hypothesis
People who have musical talents (play an instrument) are more likely to enjoy music of any sort.

The predictor
Do you play a musical instrument?

Statistical Measures

Mode: no

The outcome
Enjoyment of music

Statistical Measures

Mode: yes

Interpretation
Although everyone who played an instrument liked music, a great number of people didn't play an instrument and still liked music!

Statistical Measures

χ2=1 p=0.31784

Evaluation
According to my results, having musical talents or interests has nothing to do with enjoying music. Approximately two hundred more people who didn't play an instrument still liked music compared to the 152 people who played an instrument and liked music. Thus, my hypothesis was not supported by the data.

Summary of findings
Although the results of this report may seem discouraging, I think that this report is a relief to some people (girls in particular) who enjoy music, but don't have any musical talent or interest. It also shows that you don't have to be a pro in order to love music.

Conclusion
First of all, I would look at the relationship between singing and the enjoyment of music in order to see if the results are similar or if they prove my hypothesis to be correct.
