Report for Music Survey

Report Title:
Report on Music Survey
Created by xxKAYmarie on April 28, 2007

My hypothesis
Age affects the like or dislike of rap music.

The predictor
age

This graph shows the ages of the people who responded to the survey. The median is 14, the mode is 13, and the mean is about 14.

Statistical Measures

Median: 14
Mode: 13
Mean: 14.06, Std. Dev.: 3.02

The outcome
rap

This graph shows the amount of people who do and do not like rap. Most people do like rap music, according to this survey.

Statistical Measures

Mode: yes

Interpretation
I noticed that, through almost all the age groups, the people who like rap music outnumber those who don't. Although there are a few groups in between where rap music is disliked, it doesn't show a drastic change between younger age groups and older age groups.

It seems that age doesn't affect liking rap music too much. In many of the groups, people who like rap music overpopulate those who don't, no matter what age it is.

Statistical Measures

t=1.44, p=0.97783

Evaluation
The relationship I noticed is not what I predicted. I thought that the older people would dislike rap more than the younger people. Instead, it showed that almost all the age groups, young or old, liked rap music. My hypothesis was not supported.

Summary of findings
I found that age doesn't really affect how much people like rap music. This would explain why rappers are so successful. Even though this survey shows that age doesn't affect how much people like rap music, it really depends on the person. Although the survey shows people of almost all ages like rap music, I know that it just depends on the person's musical preferences.

Conclusion
I would like to retest the age-genre relationships with other music genres. I want to know if age affects how much people like pop music, R&B music, or even oldies music.
