Report for Teen Read Week

Report Title:
Report on Teen Read Week
Created by verycherry on June 26, 2006

My hypothesis
Age affects how much people like to read.

The predictor
Age of child

These are the ages of the children who took this survey.

Statistical Measures

Median: 13
Mode: 13
Mean: 13.58, Std. Dev.: 1.77

The outcome
How much they like to read

This is the data for how much children like to read.

Statistical Measures

Median: I do not have much time to read
Mode: I do not have much time to read
Mean: 2.98, Std. Dev.: 0.87

Interpretation
Negative relationship

Statistical Measures

Pearson Correlation Coefficient: -0.03; p=0.51.
Values near zero indicate no correlation. Values near one indicate a high degree of correlation, while values near negative one (-1) indicate that the measures are opposite, ie that a high value of age tends to accompany a low value of readtime and vice versa.

Evaluation
The relationship is not what I predicted, I thought that the older the child, the more they read but I was wrong. The relationship is statistically significant because you can find out how the different ages affect how much children read. The data does support my hypothesis because it was how age affects how much a child likes to read, and my data tells you the ages and how long they read for, so a long time would probably mean they like to read!

Summary of findings
I found out that more younger children like to read than older children, although over the age of 18 more people like to read. This is probably because teenagers would not find enough time to because of school work and going out with friends. Younger children however don't have much to do so reading would keep them entertained. Also adults of 18 and 19 would read because they don't have so much to do.

Conclusion
I could change my study by having my outcome as how often they read instead of how long they read for, I think it would be more accurate to find out my hypothesis because time might mean 2hrs but only every month but with how often you can tell that if it's every day they must enjoy it!

I wouldn't change the survey because this survey was on reading and none of the others would give the right information.

I think that this was a good project!!!
