Report on SmartGirls on the Move

Smart girls decide for themselves™.

We wanted to know where you've been, where you're going, and what happens once you get there. Read this report to learn more about SmartGirls' travel experiences and habits.
Who are these travelers?
It was no surprise that traveling is something many SmartGirls are super psyched about! We had 629 responses to this survey, 606 of you were girls, 18 boys and 5 didn't report their gender. Respondents to this survey were mostly between the ages of 10-14 years old. Here's what you had to say!

Age of respondents
Who is the big cheese of the family?
Most of you, 262, said you were the oldest child, which meant that you had a greater say about where you travel. 152 of you were the proud youngest in the family who eagerly awaited a long long car ride just to annoy that older brother or sister. Way fun! When asked what your favorite travel activity was, an astounding number of you replied "to annoy my bro or sis".

People from all different types of lifestyles love to travel! Whether you were from a small town or a large city you all said you liked to explore new places. Not just people from one or two countries like to travel, it was pretty obvious that girls and boys from all over the world like to check out new places and see new things. Here are just a few of the different countries represented in this report!

~UK-84

Like, all the time - or hardly ever?
We wanted to know how often our SmartGirls traveled and we found that about 252 of you said that you travel yearly whether with your families, your friends or just by yourself. Another 125 of you hit the road around once every 3-5 years, while 124 of you hardly ever get to go new places. Surprisingly, 105 SmartGirls said they usually ride in airplanes, trains or automobiles about 5 times a year for a trip to somewhere fun.

Infinite Cash, infinite travels?!
Say someone gave you an unlimited amount of cash, wow! After that huge shopping spree at the mall a huge majority of you (468 responses) said that you strongly agree or agree that you would definitely travel more with that money. Ah, if only money grew on trees, right?

Flight or feet?
There are numerous means of transportation around the world, some that you might have in your home country and some that you may not be familiar with. One of the great things about travel is the opportunity to try new modes of transportation! It is interesting that many countries still use animals like horses, camels and donkeys to move goods and people! Look below to see a breakdown of how SmartGirls get to where they are going. (Only two said animals!)

We wondered what our creative SmartGirls would do if they had the opportunity to take an all expenses paid vacation. We wanted to know where they would go, who they would take and what they would do. Here are a couple of the responses from the SmartGirls who participated!

~I live in Ireland so I would go to North America with my friends Jayde, Carla and Jenny. We would go to LA first, to dip my toes in the Pacific ocean. Then we would fly to New York, and see the Statue of liberty and go shopping. Then we would finish off in Atlanta where we would go to Club 112 and track down Usher.

~I would love to go to Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas because it looks like so much fun and the Bahamas are somewhere I have never been before. I would bring along my three best friends - Ally, Madison and Izzy - because no three girls deserve a holiday more than these guys. They are so much fun and are always there for me. Once we got to the resort, we would surf and swim all day and then party all night, doing whatever we wanted to do without adults telling us not to stay up too late or to stay close to the hotel. It would be so much fun and we would have the time of our lives.

~I would go to India. I would bring my two parents and my brother. When we get there I would do lots of shopping for Indian things, make sure I taste all ethnic foods, experience the overall culture, and improve my Hindi language skills.

~I would like to go to Spain with my three closest friends. I love the Spanish language and culture and would love to go and see all the sights and experience the lifestyle I have heard so much about in my Spanish classes. We would definitely go out, dance, party, meet new people, and have fun trying to speak Spanish!

~I'd like to go to America because it has always been my dream to go there. I would take my mom, dad and my best friend, Genma. Once we got there, we'd visit all the really cool places, like New York, Hollywood, etc. but we'd also go to the nice little towns that not many people have heard of and learn all about the witch trials in Salem. We'd also definitely go to the theme parks because they're meant to be way better than the boring ones in England!

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us!
