Portia

Hi everyone! My name is Portia and I'm this month's Mentor of the Month. I'm really excited to be here at SmartGirl, and I can't wait to hear from you. I love programs like SmartGirl - some day, I'd like to start my own nonprofit that helps kids. I'm here to talk with you about anything you want, so feel free write to me at: sgmentor@hotmail.com. You can write for advice, for school help or just to say hi!

Survey Says...
Inspired by the big election going on in the U.S. this month, our first survey asks you all about voting and elections - from national elections to Student Council elections. Cast your ballot and let us know what you think! (http://www.smartgirl.org/surveys/8192405.html) Or take our second survey, How Competitive Are You??, which explores your competitive side (http://www.smartgirl.org/surveys/8185622.html).

SmartGirl Reviews: What's the buzz?
What did we review this month? SmartGirl Editor Tiffany read The Alchemyst, a book by Michael Scott (http://www.smartgirl.org/reviews/editor1.html). SmartGirl Editor Rutie decided to check out High School Musical 3: Senior Year (http://www.smartgirl.org/reviews/editor2.html), a movie I bet lots of you have been waiting to see! Finally, SmartGirl Editor Becca read No Shame, No Fear by Ann Turnbull and shares what she thought (http://www.smartgirl.org/reviews/editor3.html). While you've got reviews on the brain, take a look at our Featured Reviews page. Stop by to get some hints on what's good and what's not-so-good from your fellow SmartGirls and to see if your review was selected (http://www.smartgirl.org/reviews/featured.html). If you'd like to be considered for next month's Featured Reviews, or even if you just have some opinions to share, submit your own reviews (http://www.smartgirl.org/reviews/reviews.html).

Survey Report: Hmmm...
We have two surveys to report on this month. First up, we've compiled your opinions from School Daze (http://www.smartgirl.org/reports/8184542.html). We also have the results from Buy It or Bring It? Your Take on School Lunches (http://www.smartgirl.org/reports/8184629.html). Check out that report and that question may just be answered for you!

SmartScopes: What's in the Stars?
What's your November destiny? Don't spend any more time wondering - check out the SmartScopes (http://www.smartgirl.org/smartscope.html)! What's in the stars for you? (I bet some of you will be surprised!)

Super SmartGirl: The Envelope, Please...
And finally, the moment you've all been waiting for, I am pleased to announce our Super SmartGirl of the Month: i_am_not_republican, age 12! She reviewed one of the American presidential debates, encouraging girls her age to get interested in politics, too. Congratulations, i_am_not_republican, you're our Super SmartGirl of the Month! (http://www.smartgirl.org/reviews/super.html)

Alright, SmartGirls! We've got a lot going on here in November. Enjoy! I hope to hear from you soon!

Love,
Portia

Take Five!
SmartGirl Quick Facts:
1An October Quick Poll revealed that only 9.39% of SmartGirls don't pay attention to elections and other processes that don't determine their country's leaders.
2According to our "School Daze" survey report, the majority of attend public schools.
3In the same report, we learned that 87 of the SmartGirls who took the survey were starting at a new school this fall. Good luck! We hope it's going well!
