Friends

They're like family, but like family, sometimes we just don't get along! Friends are worth the time and effort it takes to figure things out. Let us help!

Jealous of the New Girl

We had a new student in our class and I was responsible for showing her around. Then my best friend all the sudden started to hang out with her, and a few days later it was like I was invisible to her. Now I'm wondering if I'm jealous or what. Please help.

Dear SmartGirl,

Unfortunately, this is just something we all do in our lives without actually realising we're doing it: leaving our best friend behind for someone new. Usually, though, it is just a phase and will pass. But in the meantime, it's not much fun for you! Call you best friend and ask if you can hang out together, just you two, or a sleepover. If you do get some time together, ask her why she's shutting you out like this and let her know how you feel. Maybe suggest the three of you hang out together so that no one is excluded.
