They motivate us. They hold us back. Sometimes they make a lot of sense, but sometimes they don't make sense to us at all. The good thing is that feelings are universal, so chances are, a SmartGirl will understand. Why not give it a chance?
I Snap When I Argue |
Sometimes I can be very argumentative when I feel like I'm right. When someone makes me angry, I try to relax, but if it keeps happening, I snap. When I snap, I say some really messed up things to people. What should I do?

Dear SmartGirl,
We all say things we are not proud of in one point in our life or another. Make sure you tell these people sorry and let them know that is how you react. Now if you turn to violence or your snapping becomes worse, you might want to think about anger management. There is nothing to be ashamed about.

Dear SmartGirl,
When you feel yourself getting that angry, you just need to take a break. Remove yourself from the situation and go and take a breather, even if just for 5 minutes, just to collect yourself and your thoughts together so that you can talk calmly and sensibly without saying anything silly. That way you can also come up with a solution. And remember you aren't always necessarily right and sometimes it's good to just admit when you are wrong. But there doesn't always have to be a right and a wrong; opinions are all different. =)

Dear SmartGirl,
When you feel you are going to snap, just count from 1 to 3 in your head and say 'stop.' You're then prompting yourself to stop your negative thoughts and leave the situation, even if you have to go for a walk or pre-occupy yourself in other ways. It often helps me if I listen to my iPod and just go for a walk; music always helps.
