Meet Our SG Peer Mentors:
Alison, age 15
SGPM since October 2010
I think I would make a good SG mentor because I like helping people with
their problems, I'm a good listener, and I am able to put myself in
other peoples perspectives to understand more about the situation and
effectively come up with a solution.
Allie, age 16
SGPM since October 2010
I have a whole lot of experience with going through trials at home and
at school (mostly not drama related), and I have always been the one
to help people, including myself, get through them. I'm the oldest
sister of a divorced family. Helping people through their problems
has become a part of my everyday life, and I would love to help others
who are out of my reach physically.
Bec, age 16
SGPM since July 2010
In 16 short years I have discovered and learnt about more life issues
than a normal 16-year-old would, so I find that I would be able to
relate to everyone in some way. My friends know me as the girl with
the great advice and I hope to stick by that on SmartGirl as a Peer
Mentor. I’m here to help.
Bethany, age 13
SGPM since March 2010
My friends always come to me for advice, the guys and girls. I'm like
their life saver. Plus, I've been through a lot of different situations.
Being a SmartGirl Mentor can help me help kids through the same situations
I've gone through!
Bleeding Heart, age 15
SGPM since April 2010
I have been through so much, and when something goes down, I always try
to my best to be the bigger person. I know how girls think and what
they are going through. I give my friends advice whenever I can. I
also have the time to read and reread all the issues and I am a natural-born
listener. I also really want to help.
Cae, age 15
SGPM since March 2010
I would make a good peer mentor because I have had many teenage experiences where I have felt that no one understands. I would like to help girls and boys, my age, older, and younger, to know that they are not alone. We all go through hard times, and sometimes speaking to others who you don't see or talk to in your everyday life is more effective than talking to your best friend. We all have embarrassing moments. We all have heart-breaking experiences. I hope my advice reaches out to you adults, and preteens alike.
Cassie, age 13
SGPM since March 2010
My friends mainly come to me for advice: you know, when they're
having a bad day or when they just need help. They end up taking my advice
and it helps in the long run. That's why I'd be a good peer mentor.
Charlie, age 13
SGPM since March 2010
I love to help out, and I give good advice to lots of my friends.
Helping people out is what I love to do, every day.
Dussie, age 16
SGPM since April 2010
I've been giving advice not only to girls my age, but also
my younger sisters, cousins, and friends who need someone to talk to
who has "been there."
I've had my fair share of experiences and I've learned how to step back,
take a look at a situation, and find a successful solution. Hopefully
my experience can help another girl out so they don't have to make the
same mistakes that I've made.
SGPM since October 2010
Ihave had a lot of problems, but I know how to get over them. I think
I would make a good SG Peer Mentor because I know how to deal with
many things involving friends, family, and just life overall.
SGPM since October 2010
I've been in Middle School, High School, and now my second
year in college. If anyone knows about peer pressure, it would be me.
I've been through what half these girls have been or will go through
and I've seen my fair share. I know everything from being depressed
to sex to bullies to drinking and drugs. I'm also a Psychology Major
working my way up to get a Ph.D. so who better to have as a peer mentor?
Erika, age 14
SGPM since July 2010
I would be a good SmartGirl mentor because I am around the
age of many SmartGirl visitors who need advice, and I love giving it!
I believe that loving to do something helps one do that thing well.
SGPM since October 2010
Hello, I'm Fiza. I'd like to try to help everyone, whether it's a little
issue or a big situation. From crushes to make up to friends to depression
to breakups, I'm here to help. I will try my best to answer your question,
and will try my very best to lead you in the right direction. I'm a
senior in high school right now, and I've certainly been through a
lot, so this is why I want to be a mentor. I want to help people. I
always enjoy putting smiles on people's face. I have a good sense of
humor, I'm responsible, polite, and very friendly. I'm open to any
questions you may have. You're a wonderful human being and you deserve
an answer. This is why I'm here to assist. (:

I am an elementary and middle school teacher and have years of experience
mentoring boys and girls of all ages! I think the SmartGirl mission
is fabulous and would love to be a part of it and help out in any way
I can.
Katie, age 19
SGPM since February 2010
Well I've been through a lot in the past 20 years, battling an eating
disorder, relationships (and broken hearts), friendship problems, confidence
problems, and too many other issues to name! I would love to help as
many of you as possible and help girls find a voice and be the inspirational
young women that I know you all are! Remember: "Love, laugh, and smile."
SGPM since August 2010
I think I would be a good SmartGirl Peer Mentor because I love helping
people with their problems. I use what I know about psychology to help
others. I use the advice that I would like to be given. I put myself
in other people's shoes.
Kristy, age 19
SGPM since February 2010
I would make a good Smartgirl Peer Mentor as I love to help people
and I have a lot of experience in many of the issues and would like to
help teenage girls make the right decisions in the problems they face. I
am a friendly, outgoing person who is happy to take time out in the day
to help people out when they need it and give them hope and courage to
get through.
Lauren, age 13
SGPM since March 2010
I have gone through so much, and I know exactly what to do if
something happens to make you feel uncomfortable or unsure. I give tons
of advice out to people daily, and I always want to help someone.
Macy, age 14

I love to give advice! All my friends come to me for advice, and
I really love making people feel better.

Olga is a Master of Public Health in Health Behavior and Health
Education. She has been a peer mentor since high school, and now loves
teaching sexual health to college students.
SGPM since October 2010
I would be a good mentor because I'm the girl that everyone goes
to for advice. I really like helping people and I've gone through some
pretty tough things in my life, so I know how to handle a lot of different
things.
SGPM since August 2010
I would be a good SmartGirl Mentor because I love to help other
people who are in need. I won't let it rest until I have helped to solve
the problem.
SGPM since October 2010
I think that I’d be a great mentor simply because of the
knowledge of life experiences that I can impart to others. Sometimes,
all it takes a little guidance from one understanding person to turn
a disastrous situation around for the better. I am practical, intelligent,
and above all sympathetic to someone who feels misguided or lost because,
let’s face it, we’ve all been there before. I’ve learned
that in life, there will be moments when you feel confused and forlorn,
and in those moments, a voice of compassion and reason is what you need;
often, this voice is your conscience, but when that’s just not
cutting it, you need help from someone else, and sometimes that advice
needs to be from a person outside of your family and even your circle
of closest friends. In those moments of uncertainty, you need the opinion
of an individual who won’t judge you or chastise you like a parent,
but who will keep your best interest in mind. Based on my own life experiences,
I can honestly say that if I'd had a mentor who knew as much as I know
now, those moments of insecurity and confusion would have been a lot
less difficult for me to cope with; I cannot turn back the clock and
undo my mistakes, but I can help others to avoid making the same mistakes
I made. I know that I can help people who are having a hard time, whether
their issues pertain to their relationships, friendships, families, or
even the pressures of applying to college. The wisdom that I’ve
acquired in my eighteen years of life, little though it is, can go a
long way!
Shelby, age 13
SGPM since March 2010
I'd be a good mentor because I have been through a lot and I think
I can help in any way possible. I am nice and I think of everything on
the bright side.
Stacey, age 13
SGPM since April 2010
I've been through many experiences that lots of girls go through. I love
to give advice and my friends always come to me when they have a problem.
I'm always happy to help!
Violet Joy, age 16
SGPM since July 2010
I've been through a lot for just being 16. I know all about divorce and
breakups and all sorts of issues, both with family and friends. I wish
I would have had good advice through situations like this, and I think
it's great that SmartGirl offers it. So keep the questions coming and
hopefully I can help!
