"Help! I'm being teased!

I have a problem. I have hairy arms. The hair is not straight, it is curly. A classmate said I should shave or do something with it. Once, as a kid I shaved it off and it grew harder and uglier, but I like it this way. I don't want to take it off. What should I do? People used to make fun of me and call me names. Help!"

4% Confront the people who tease you. Let them know that you don't appreciate being called names and that your body is none of their business!
5% Talk to your friends about how you feel. Chances are they have been teased about things they like about themselves and have found good ways to deal with hurtful comments.
17% Everybody looks different and has a variety of characteristics about themselves. If you like how your arms look, embrace it and love it!
19% If you don't mind how your arms look then don't worry about it! Ignore the people who tease you and remember that the only person's opinion that really matters here is yours!

  • It is healthy and perfectly normal to have hair on your arms! I don't shave my arms neither do my older sisters. So don't worry about this! If you like the way you are, just simply say 'I like the way I am'. Not everyone will follow the teasers, alot of people will respect you for being yourself. Good luck!

  • You should never change for somebody else. However, it is common to shave/wax your arms. But, you are young and there is no reason to become obsessed with the way you look! As long as you are happy, healthy and keep yourself clean and your arms clean, you will be fine. I hope you have a great life - be happy!!!! :)

  • If you like it the way it is don'y worry about what other people say. I mean it is not the whole world. Plus it only matters what you think.

  • Just let roll of your shoulder. Don't let your arms ruin your day! If you don't care what they look like then care about what other people think about!

  • Babakar, We all have something funny about us. I sure do. On my foot I have one big freckle on the middle of my foot and two little ones on the side. It's funny looking but I learned to accept it. It's the funny things about us that make you, you! So if you really are having trouble with the people who are teasing you, talk to someone you trust and see if they can do something about it. If not, talk to the people who tease you -- it will all be fine.

  • Listen Hunny, I feel for you, I really do! I've been blessed with "hairy" arms also. In middle school I tried to shave my arms, too! The hair grew back thicker and darker. I've tried using bleaches and didn't like how my hair looked growing out. Tell your "Friends" to leave you alone and love your arms! It's just hair, after all. P.S. SOME people LOOOOOVE hairy arms. Sounds wierd, but it's true!
