"Miserable Mel
I don't know what's up with me! I am feeling totally depressed all the time. I am usually happy, enthusiastic and energetic, but these days I'm normally defeated and tired. At night I cry my eyes out, while thinking to myself, "Why am I crying?" I really want it to stop, because all my friends are starting to notice it. What should I do?"

A lot of people feel depressed at some point in their lives. Life can be very hard sometimes. Try to get involved in activities that you enjoy (like playing sports, watching movies, dancing, or spending time with friends). If you fill up your time with fun and exciting activities, each day will be more enjoyable and you'll have less time to be sad, because you'll be so busy with other things! You might also meet some new people who can bring greater happiness to your life. |

Sometimes talking about your feelings and your problems can really help. Find someone who you feel comfortable talking too (like a friend, sibling, parent or teacher) and explain to them what you have been going through. They might have some helpful advice on how to feel better and can provide you with the support you may need during difficult times. While it might be scary at first, once you start talking about your feelings you'll probably find that you feel a lot better. So don't be shy and speak up! |

No matter what you feel, you aren't the only one. If you're starting to feel like you'll never feel better again, seek help. Many people suffer from depression, and it's not just a phase or something you go through - it's a medical disorder that you can receive help for. Reaching out to a parent, counselor or doctor will help you get the help you need. |

It is very common to feel depressed from time to time, especially if something stressful is going on in your life. Each night before you go to bed, try making a list of the stressful or upsetting things that happened to you throughout the day. Sometimes you don't even know what's bothering you until you try to write it down! Getting those things down on paper could help get them out of your mind. You'll feel better about yourself by seeing all the things you are able to overcome each day. |

Try to talk to someone who you trust and someone that won't just tell you it's just a teenage phase, because it's not. Talking helps a lot. Take it from one who knows.
Ask yourself why? What happened? Should I waste my time crying or go out there and stand out and be happy. Don't worry about it every moment because then you will feel sad and depressed. It's normal. Teens get very moody sometimes, just like me. You should be proud of who you are if you are a very good person. You really need to trust yourself. Call the inner you and believe in yourself no matter what they say about you. Think positive and think about something you love and start working on it. Get yourself outside the world you're in now. Talk to your friends and know each other, and then they'll know the real you. Be strong inside and out. Never let stupid things get in your way.
I think this is totally normal. I went through a stage when I felt really depressed all the time. I didn't tell anyone and eventually it went away. But sometimes it's good to get things off your chest. You could try writing in a diary, even if it's just once in awhile, if you don't want to speak to someone. Cheer up, honey; let the tears come, then make them go. Do something fun everyday and you'll be happier!
